Iowa Codification offers cities in Iowa a variety of services relating to the codification of ordinances, including review of codes and ordinances, ongoing supplemental services, complete updates and recodification of existing codes, model ordinances and drafting assistance, and annual state legislative summaries of new and amended state laws that impact on and may require amendments to local codes.

IOWA CODIFICATION OFFERS:

REVIEWS AND RECODIFICATION OF EXISTING CITY CODES.

Code reviews include a check of local provisions for compliance with state law, internal duplications and inconsistencies, and incomplete or omitted regulations. Upon completion of the review, Iowa Codification holds editorial sessions, provides replacement pages to incorporate the necessary changes, and sends proceedings for adoption of the updated code.

CODE CONVERSION.

Conversion of a city’s code to a new format in order to improve readability, reduce unnecessary bulk, and modernize its appearance. Such conversion offers a format that includes:

logically arranged subject matter

manageable and easy-to-use index and table of contents

expandable numbering system

LOOSE-LEAF SUPPLEMENTS.

Codification of new ordinances as they are adopted so that amended pages can be incorporated into the city’s code. At the same time, appropriate updates to the table of contents and index are also made. This ongoing supplement service includes editorial review for consistency with state law, as well as prompt processing of ordinances for return to the city.

Sample ordinances for a variety of subjects, as well as technical assistance in the preparation of ordinances.

STATE LEGISLATIVE SUMMARIES.

Yearly summaries of new or amended state laws that impact on and may require amendments to local codes, as well as the necessary amending ordinances and revised pages needed to implement the new or amended state laws into the local code.

Partner in the municipal consulting firm of Simmering - Cory, Inc. and Iowa Codification, Inc.  Principal responsibilities include day-to-day technical assistance to city code clients and coordination of codification services, and grant writing and administration.  Marsha has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Iowa State University.

Tom Simmering

Partner in the municipal consulting firm of Simmering-Cory, Inc. and Iowa Codification, Inc.  Principal responsibilities include grant writing and administration, as well as coordination of numerous economic development activities to a variety of clients including cities, counties, local development corporations, and private businesses.  Tom has a Masters of Science in Town and Regional Planning from Iowa State University.

Judy Lyster
